Every so often, most pastors will notice that there are those in the congregation who are not paying attention to the sermon. Some may have dozed off, some may be surfing the internet, chatting on Facebook, or many other things that make your phone an object of liability. Many ministers don’t know how to cope with this and even fewer have a cure for it. That is until one creative man of the cloth decided to fight fire with fire, sort of.
Pastor LeMay Touchette, of Saints of Tomorrow Fellowship, devised a solution that is guaranteed to shake the parishioners back to the now and now. Of course, he enlisted the deviousness of his techno guru son-in-law, to help facilitate the idea. Pastor Touchette’s son-in-law designed a contraption that will allow a text message to be sent to those who are caught “napping” in the congregation, during the message. And it sends a simple message that simply says…”This is God…Listen”. Pastor Touchette says that it’s delightful to see the reaction of those who are caught. He also admits that it’s had slightly different consequences, than what he had hoped. Pastor Touchette says, “It’s a double-edged sword. On the bright side, inattentiveness is quelled nearly 100%. On the other side of the coin, total attendance is down by about 55%.
In the meantime, Pastor Touchette says that he will depend on the Lord to deal with them.
