It’s no secret that Pastor Al Saylors, of Ocean View Amalgamated Disciples United, has always had a fondness for the ocean. He was born and reared in a beach town. He served in the Navy for 24 years. He loves being out on the open waters and communing with God’s aquatic creatures and other tasty treats.
Saylors says that after much, much prayer and even more serious dialogue with his Heavenly Father, he is certain that it is God’s will, that he has a yacht, so that he may sail out on the high seas, so that God may teach him to do the things Jesus did. No, he says God doesn’t want him to be fishers of men. That’s what disciples are for. Pastor Saylors declares that God wants him to learn to walk on the water. And that God has shown him that to learn to do so, he would have to go to the deepest parts of the ocean because it requires greater faith and discipline. If one tries to walk on water in shallow water, there’s not much harm there. But out in the deepest water, one must truly trust God.
